This project was one of my first deep dives into the ceramic medium. I first began to use its material and the processes involved within my concepts.

HER

Ceramic Hand built Vessel, 12'' x 18'' x 10'', 2021

HER body though broken is still beautiful. Through this piece, I aim to create a conversation about my own struggles with body positivity and highlight the flaws that more often people try to hide. Through the process of firing this piece, parts of her form broke off in the kiln. Instead of starting again, or trying to hide these mistakes, I have accentuated them. HER form exudes confidence while also allowing plants to grow from inside. This utilitarian aspect calls upon the viewer to care and nurture their own body just as they would with plants. The plants continue to grow and flourish when the viewer watches and pouts work into the piece. However, if the plants are not taken care of, they will wither and brown.
